Danish Governor Bungalow
Danish Governor Bungalow This building got its name as it was used us residence of Danish Governor in 1784.
Built in 1620, the Fort exists to exhibit the Danish architecture. The fort is now under the control of Tamil Nadu Archeological Department and houses an archaeological Museum. This museum is open on all days except Friday.
Was the capital and port city of Cholas, also called as Kaveeripumpattinam, as the river Cauvery drains into the Bay of Bengal here only. Kovalan and Kannagi of the great epic Silappathikaram, written by Ilangovadigal, lived in this town. “Silappathikara Kalaikkodam’ a panorama of sculptures depicting scenes from Silappathikaram.
It was built in 1792 on Danish Architectural style, and recovered 11 by ASI.
Thillaiyadi Valliammai Memorial
She was born on 22-02-1898. As a patriot she fought the British to , get freedom in her young age, Even Gandhiji regarded her as the embodiment of freedom struggle and whose very presence invoked in one-self a patriotic fervor. She died on 22-02-1914. As a mark of respect her memorial was opened on 13-08-1971. Her statue, life history and photographs displayed here. A Library also functioning regularly in this memorial. Situated in Thillayadi Valliammai Village at Tharangambadi Taulk.
Here is renowned for the festivals held on full moon day, in July-August and January-February.
Kodiakkarai (Point Calimare)
Kodiakkarai (55Km) also called Point Calimere, is situated abutting the Paik Strait. Spread over an area of over 312.17 hectares, this Wild Life Sanctuary boasts of mammals like blue buck, spotted deer, wild beat semi wild ponies, bonnet macaque, water birds like flamingoes, ibises, herons, and spoonbills. Sea turtle, starred tortoise, vipers, marsh crocodiles, etc., are some of the reptiles. Fish, dolphins, dugong, sea lion, sea cow are occasionally found here. The museum situated opposite to the Basilica has a very rich variety of exhibits. The precious offerings made by the devotees are on display here. Biblical incidents are depicted on both sidewalls Timings 630am to 800pm. Festivals are celebrated here with all pomp and gaiety every year. On August 29th the feast of our lady commences with the hoisting of the flag the 10th day ends on the 8th September after the dismounting of the flag.
