Jeevanandam Statue

Litterateur and orator par excellence he was one of the fore runners of Marxist movement in India particularly in Tamilnadu. He represented Chennai Washermenpet as M.L.A. in 1957 and proved to be a great Parliamentarian. He was Born on 2 1—08 1907 and Died on 18-01 -1963. His statue is situated in Tambaram.

Christ Church

In kanchipuram, there is a Church called Christ Church, which was built by the Britisher. Mclean, in 1921. The brick structure was typically scottish, with arches, and pillars.


There is a Mosque built over 450 years ago by the Nawab of Arcot near the Ekambareswarar temple. There is another mosque near the Vaikunta Perumal Temple. The beauty of this is that the mosque and the temple share a common tank. True to the spirit of tolerance, Muslims have a share in the Brahmotsavam festival of the Varadaraja temple too.

Rajiv Gandhi Memorial

On the way to Kanchipuram lies Sriperumbuthur, the birth place of Saint Ramanujar - a “vaishnavite” philosopher. He is also the founder of Vishisdadhvaidham The former Prime Minister of India 1984-1989, Born on 20th August, 1944 in Mumbai. Champion of secularism beacon of our youth. Votary of our modernization, Crusader for world peace and justice was assassinated here on May 21, 1991. A memorial for the departed leader on a large scale is built on the spot. Sakunthala Jagaunathan Museum of Folk Art

The Sakuntala Jagannathan Museum of Folk Art is situated in Brahma Mandiram the 400 year old house belonging to landowner of Damal, the maternal ancestors of Sir C.P.Ramaswami Aiyar. Reliable sources date it to the 16 17th centuries. The existence of wall paintings, sculptures and household collections prompted the reuse of the house as a museum. Silk Industries

About 75% of Kanchipuram’s population is dependent on the Silk Saree industry, either directly or indirectly. Yet, the city does not manufacture Silk or any other raw material that goes into its silk sarees. The Silk industry is entirely made up of Handloom weavers and merchants.

St. Thomas Mount St.

Mount is a small hillock situated south of Chennai, where St. Thomas - the Apostle of Jesus, preached Christianity. He himself carved a ‘Stone-Cross’ everyday St. Thomas used this stone-cross for his prayer. One day when he was in prayer with the cross, the killers commanded by king Raja Mahadeva knifed him on the hack. But St. Thomas continued his prayer up to his death. His blood, bleeding on the stone cross. For several centuries the stains of his blood could not be remove from the stone-cross. The Church also holds a fascinating painting of Holy Mother and Infant Jesus said to have been painted by the apostle St. Thomas himself during 1st century AD. St. Thomas Mount, Chennai 600 016. The village is known for its historic inscription of a written constitution that deals with elections to the village assembly, qualifications required of candidates contesting in elections, circumstances tinder which a candidate may be disqualified, mode of election, tenure of the elected candidates and the right of the public to recall the elected members when they failed to discharge their duties properly and so on. Open air Museum

This newly setup modern open-air museum of sculpture reflects the cultural heritage of the Tamils from the Pre-Sangam days. The objects on display, shaped mostly from granite by 200 sculptors, include chains of stone, ornamental wheels and a host of other items. The themes here are many, including those relating to historical and cultural events of the past, placing the contribution of the Tamils in proper perspective. Situated very close to the shore temple, one can have a glimpse of the past as well as the progress being made in the present in the field of art in Tamil Nadu here.


50 Kilometers from Mamallapuram, there is a ruined fort built by the Nawabs. Backwaters and cool sands provide a nice for picnics spot.

Cholamandal Artists Village

This is a village established by the community of various artists for production and display of various artifacts such as sculptures, bronzes, icons and paintings. Kalpakkam Reactor Research Centre - (RRC)

It was established in the year 1971, under the control of Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. In 1985, it was renamed as Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR). The centre is engaged in broad based multidisciplinary programme of scientific research and advanced engineering directed towards the development of Fast Breeder Reactor technology. Fast Breeder Test Reactor based on unique mixed Plutonium Uranium Carbide fuel, First of its kind in the world and KAMINT Reactor, the only operating Reactor in the World using U233 fuel are successfully operated.
